BrainPOP ( is an online K-12 educational solution that makes rigorous learning experiences accessible and engaging for all. Proven to raise academic achievement, BrainPOP has been a trusted resource to more than six million educators and 300 million learners worldwide.

BrainPOP provides endless opportunities for kids to take agency over their learning through playful, knowledge-building content and learner-driven projects, preparing them for success in the classroom and beyond.

About the Script Writer Position Remember what it was like to be in 6th grade? Having to sit still and focus for hours on end, trying not to check the clock too often, and just waiting for that bell to ring? Remember the joy you felt when it was time to watch a video? For a brief time, your curiosity was sparked, and you were engaged with the material.

BrainPOP's editorial team needs you to help us create these learning moments. Our core product is short, animated explainer videos. These "movies," as we call them, are playful in tone, but serious in intent. In every one, we challenge ourselves to go far beyond the bare facts of a topic. We want to take kids on a little journey, where they might gain a new perspective on the world; or a new interest in a topic they never really thought about before; or renewed confidence and excitement to learn in general. And that all begins with the script.

Our ideal candidate is intellectually voracious, a dogged researcher and graceful writer who knows how to pluck a story out of a wealth of facts. The work is demanding: A script doesn’t move to animation until its tone, pace and content are exactly right. You won’t always write on deadline, but you will always have your hands full. There’s lots of room to follow your interests and take on diverse projects, so self-motivation is key. And since the team is small, each person can have a serious impact.

Your contribution to the Content Team will help elementary and middle school students every day by demystifying complicated concepts and bringing them to life through playful animation. You will have a hand in how these future generations understand the world.

In this role, you will write dialogue and art direction, and contribute to drafting and editing of supporting features. This includes: * Working with the team to define the scope of a script, based on curriculum standards, analysis of our offerings, and the possibilities of our format * Researching the subject matter and understanding it at an advanced level (think college intro class—seriously) * Writing an engaging script that explains complex ideas simply and visually * Taking your work through multiple revisions * Working with animators to help translate scripts into visually compelling but simplified and direct explainers * Giving other writers on the team feedback on their work * Thinking through goals and larger team-wide projects with Scripts team members * Writing and editing some supporting features, including: metadata, quizzes, high-interest reading materials, and classroom activities

You are: * A master of spoken prose with a colloquial voice and flawless grammar * Curious and excited to learn concepts as you explain them visually * A creative thinker who enjoys visual problem solving and storytelling * Passionate about animation’s potential to spark young minds * An articulate communicator and eager collaborator * An efficient researcher who can digest unfamiliar concepts across a breadth of topics * Able to juggle multiple projects

On your resume: * 5+ years professional writing experience * Special consideration will be given to those with a background in: * Writing for or teaching a K-12 audience * Creating animated content * Writing for nonfiction podcasts * Journalism

Please send us your resume, cover letter, and one relevant writing sample (researched nonfiction only). We strongly suggest watching a few of our movies to guide your sample selection.
